Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson vetoed a state bill that would effectively ban gender transition procedures for minors in his state.
The bill, HB 1570, sought to to ban healthcare providers from administering gender transition treatments to children. The proposed bill included ending chemical castration, surgeries, and hormone therapy to those under the age of 18.
Hutchinson defended his decision to nix the bill in a Monday interview with Fox News’ Tucker Carlson. “This, again, is the first law in the nation that invokes the state between medical decisions, parents who concent to that, and the decision of the patient,” Hutchinson told Carlson.
