A former fundraiser for Bill and Hillary Clinton has reportedly been offered immunity in exchange for his testimony against former Trump campaigner Paul Manafort.
Tucker Carlson of Fox News reported lobbyist Tony Podesta was offered immunity to give testimony that will help put away Manafort. The kicker is Podesta would be getting immunity for a “near identical crime.”
The offer comes from Special Counsel Robert Mueller, who is charged with investigating whether or not Donald Trump or members of his campaign colluded with Russians during the 2016 elections.
Critics claim Mueller has been given freedom to cast a wide net in hopes of finding any sort of malfeasance. This led to the indictment of Manafort for alleged crimes committed prior to his joining the Trump campaign. Carlson reports Podesta worked with Manafort to lobby on behalf of the Ukrainian interests in the United States, without properly registering at the time under the Foreign Agent Registration Act.
“Only one of them made the mistake of chairing Donald Trump’s presidential campaign,” Carlson said of the difference in treatment of the two men. “For a near identical crime, Bill and Hillary’s friend could escape and emerge completely unscathed while Paul Manafort may rot in jail.”
The immunity offer comes at a time when Republicans are accusing investigators of political bias.
