Rush Limbaugh, the media icon and inspiration to talk show hosts around the world, died Wednesday after a long battle with lung cancer.

His wife, Kathryn, announced the news at the opening of Wednesday’s broadcast.

“For over 32 years, Rush has cherished you, loyal audience, and always looked forward to every single show. It is with profound sadness I must share with you directly that our beloved Rush, my wonderful husband, passed away this morning due to complications from lung cancer,” she said. “Rush will forever be the greatest of all time.”

Last year, Limbaugh was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Trump at his final State of the Union address. Trump weighed in on the news of Limbaugh’s death in a call in segment on Fox News. “He was very brave… He was fighting till the very end. He was a fighter & just a great gentleman,” Trump said. “Rush is irreplaceable, unique.”

Limbaugh spent over thirty years building a radio audience of tens of millions of conservative listeners. News of his passing triggered a flurry of tributes on Twitter.

“Rush Limbaugh revolutionized American radio. His voice guided the conservative movement for millions every day,” GOP House Leader Kevin McCarthy wrote. “Rest In Peace, Rush.”

“I’ll never forget the first time I heard his voice. I was hooked,” tweeted E. Brian Rose, founder of Top Conservative and host of The EBR Show. “He’s been an inspiration to me for decades. RIP Rush Limbaugh, the greatest radio man of all time.”

“Heartbroken about #RushLimbaugh. He is an American icon that can never be replaced. Let the life he led serve as a reminder to us all to fight nonstop for truth,” tweeted conservative author Candace Owens. “We face dark times in this country, but we can all be a light if we have the courage to speak up, unapologetically.”

Rush Limbaugh was 70 years old.

E. Brian Rose is the founder of Top Conservative and host of The EBR Show, a live call-in program syndicated on various sites across the Internet. He is a combat Veteran of the Somalia and Bosnia conflicts, best selling author, and former Republican candidate for U.S Congress.
