Rep Maxine Waters (D-CA) called for the impeachment of President Donald Trump again during a Saturday rally in California.
Standing on a pedestal in front of dozens of anti-Trump demonstrators, the outspoken Congresswoman repeated her impeachment rhetoric and urged those in attendance to harass members of the Trump administration.
She shouted, “Let’s make sure we show up wherever we have to show up and if you see anybody from that Cabinet in a restaurant, in a department store, at a gasoline station, you get out and you create a crowd and you push back on them, and you tell them they’re not welcome anymore, anywhere.”
“It is time for us to say, even though there are those that don’t want us to say it, Mr. President, you need to be impeached,” she said, causing the crowd to react loudly.
The impromptu speech was delivered at the Keep Families Together protest rally and toy drive in Los Angeles. Speaking directly to Trump, Waters asked, “How dare you separate children from their parents? How dare you lie and say you couldn’t do anything about it?”
But President Trump did do something about it. Last week, Trump signed an executive order effectively ending the policy of separating children from parents who are being prosecuted for illegally crossing the U.S. border.
Waters falsely accused the president of being “the one who caused it,” speaking about the long-standing policy of not allowing children to accompany parents being held for prosecution. The policy was in effect during both the Obama and Bush administrations. Waters was silent on the issue until this year.
“He has done more than is needed to be impeached,” she said. His alignment with Russia and Putin. His love of the dictators of the world… We are not going to swallow it.”
At one point she claimed the president sacrificed “our children” to support his efforts to build a wall.
“God is on our side,” she yelled. “On the side of the children. On the side of what’s right. On the side of what’s honorable.”
