Congressman Jerry Nadler (D-NY) raised eyebrows by oddly saying Democrats are attempting to unpack the courts with the addition of new Justices to the Supreme Court.
“Some people will say we’re packing the Court,” Nadler said from the steps of the US Supreme Court. “We’re not packing it, we’re unpacking it.”
Adding Justices to the Supreme Court is commonly referred to as “packing the Court.”

Congressional Democrats introduced a bill on Thursday that would expand the number of Justices from nine to 13. Democrats contend the move will allow their side to create an instant majority on the nation’s highest court, which currently houses a Republican appointed majority.
Congressman (D-NY) supported Nadler and the new legislation by invoking the memory of racist laws that have been abolished for decades. Far Right Supreme Court majority is hostile to democracy itself. The fact is that if we want to save our Democracy we must act before it’s too late by restoring balance to the Supreme Court. Our Democracy faces its greatest threat since Jim Crow,” Jones said.
“The Far Right is at war with our Democracy. The Supreme Court has been an accomplice,” he added.

Prior to being elected, President Joe Biden refused to say whether he would be for adding more Justices. “You’ll know my opinion on court packing when the election is over,” Biden said when pressed in October 2020. “It’s a great question, and I don’t blame you for asking.”
