Former President Barack Obama is back. This time, he is yielding his celebrity to encourage wealthy folks to donate “all” their money to help push the Democrats toward November victories.
As reported by CNN, Obama gave a 45 minute long speech Thursday evening at a “sweeping multi-million-dollar Beverly Hills home.” The speech followed a private performance by pop star Christina Aguilera.
“If you are one of these folks who is watching cable news at your cocktail parties with your friends and you are saying ‘civilization is collapsing’ and you are nervous and worried, but that is not where you are putting all your time, energy and money, then either you don’t actually think civilization is collapsing,” he told the crowd of roughly 200.
Obama was introduced at the event by DNC chairman Tom Perez, who inferred Donald Trump is not the real President of the United States. “Let’s give it up for the real president of the United States,” Perez said in his introduction, according to reports by Politico.
While this marked Obama’s first fundraising appearance for the DNC this year, it won’t be his last. The former president is scheduled to appear next week at a luncheon with Representatives Nancy Pelosi and Anna Eshoo. The event is expected to raise millions of dollars for the Democrats, with some tickets going for as much as $237,000 per couple.
An inquiry as to how much Obama is being paid for these events was made to the DNC, but our calls were not returned.
