It started as an extreme left-wing war cry, but calls to abolish the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency (ICE) have made its way to the mainstream this week.
ICE is the agency charged with enforcing the US laws on immigration. Calling for the abolishing of an agency whose mandate is to follow US policy seems outrageous, yet many are doing just that, including some prominent politicians.
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio took to Twitter to announce, “Every country needs reasonable law enforcement on their borders. ICE is not reasonable law enforcement. ICE is broken, it’s divisive and it should be abolished.”

Much of the push is credited to US House candidate Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who managed an upset over ten term incumbent Joe Crowley in last Tuesday’s primary election. Ocasio-Corte, a self described “socialist,” began demanding the shutdown of ICE the week before her victory.
Protesters took to the streets in several hundred planned events on Saturday to echo the cry and demand the Trump administration shut down ICE.
President Trump responded by praising the “brave men and women of ICE” and telling them to not worry or lose their spirit.
To the great and brave men and women of ICE, do not worry or lose your spirit. You are doing a fantastic job of keeping us safe by eradicating the worst criminal elements. So brave! The radical left Dems want you out. Next it will be all police. Zero chance, It will never happen!
