President Trump offered a “solution” to the crisis on the border today: “Tell people not to come to our country illegally.”
Speaking to the press outside the White House, Trump was asked for comment on the US government missing the deadline to reunite families separated after being caught illegally crossing the US-Mexican border.
Trump did not seem shaken. “Well, I have a solution, he said. “Tell people not to come to our country illegally. That’s the solution. Don’t come to our country illegally. Come like other people do — come legally.”
US District Judge Dana Sabraw insisted last week the government adhere to a timeline set by the court to reunite families. The first deadline – to reunite children under five with parents – was missed by the Trump administration today. The government is expected by he court to reunite families with children over the age of five by July 26.
“Well, I have a solution: Tell people not to come to our country illegally. That’s the solution: Don’t come to our country illegally. Come like other people do—come legally. I’m saying this very simply: We have laws, we have borders. Don’t come to our country illegally.” pic.twitter.com/kiwB8rJVDl
