President Trump commented Sunday on this weekend’s attack of Saudi Arabia’s oil supply. The president said the country is “locked and loaded” as it awaits verification of which country was behind the attack.

“Saudi Arabia oil supply was attacked,” Trump tweeted. “There is reason to believe that we know the culprit, are locked and loaded depending on verification, but are waiting to hear from the Kingdom as to who they believe was the cause of this attack, and under what terms we would proceed!”

First reports indicated Houthi rebels in Yemen were behind what was originally thought to be drone strikes, but US officials are now hinting otherwise.

Those close to the investigation are now saying the blasts were a result of cruise missile attacks from Iran or Iraq, according to reports by the Wall Street Journal.

Details of the damage are still sketchy, but early indicators show the attacks will cause an interuption of a site where over 5.7 million barrels a day of oil are produced, roughly 5 percent of the world’s supply.

News of the attack, which occured Saturday afternoon, has caused a sharp surge in crude prices. US oil futures on Sunday were trading at $60.98 a barrel, an 11 percent increase from last week.

In a separate tweet, Trump announced he has authorized the released the US Strategic Petroleum Reserve.

“Based on the attack on Saudi Arabia, which may have an impact on oil prices, I have authorized the release of oil from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve, if needed, in a to-be-determined amount sufficient to keep markets well supplied,” Trump tweeted. “I have also informed all appropriate agencies to expedite approvals of the oil pipelines currently in the permitting process in Texas and various other States.”

The attacks come on the heals of news that the US briefly overtook Saudi Arabia as the world’s biggest oils supplier, earlier this summer.
