Things got heated as Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) accused Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein of “hiding information” pertaining to the FBI investigations on Russian election interference and the Hillary Clinton email scandal.
The exchange came on Thursday during a congressional oversight hearing.
Jordan told Rosenstein that Cogress has “caught you hiding information.” Rosenstein insisted that Jordan was personally attacking him, while Democrat lawmakers claimed Jordan was refusing to allow Rosenstein to answer the question.
Rosenstein became the overseer of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia probe after Attorney General Jess Sessions recused himself from the investigation.
“You should believe me because I’m telling the truth and I’m under oath,” Rosenstein told Jordan, but the Congressman from Ohio persisisted in his accusation that Rosenstein was hiding information. “You have seven days to get your act together,” Jordan said.
Jordan asked why the Justice Department told Peter Strzok not to answer questions during a closed door hearing this week after Strzok told members of Congress he was instructed by FBI attorneys not to answer some questions. Strzok is the high ranking agent who was accused of promising to derail the Trump presidential campaign in a series of text messages with his FBI attorney girlfriend
On Wednesday, Rep. Mark Meadows threatened that Rosenstein could face “contempt and impeachment” if all requested documents and information are not produced by next week.
